Best Electric or Battery Powered Push Mower
Electric and battery powered push mowers have been around for quite a while now, but just recently in the last couple of years, we have seen an explosion in the number of mowers available to the home consumer. Also, the mowers have been getting more powerful by adding larger and extra batteries. Creature comforts are becoming more commonplace as well, such as cruise control and self-powered mowers that don’t require you to push anymore.
There are many different manufacturers of electric and battery powered push mowers. Here are a few listed below:
- Green Works
The list goes on and on, it seems like most big power tool companies are jumping in the market.
We found that the Ryobi 21 in. 40-Volt Brushless Lithium-Ion Cordless SMART TREK Self Propelled Walk Behind Mower is the best electric or battery powered push mower on the market today. This is one impressive walk behind mower, with all the bells and whistles. This mower has it all including a led head light.
Here is a list of the mowers many excellent features.
- SMART TREK technology adapts to the users walking speed for ease of use
- Rear-wheel drive for increased traction
- Brushless motor for maximum power and run time
- Two 6 Ah batteries for extended run time
- Push button for hassle free starting
- Easy-lift single-motion lock and release bagger for easy debris removal
- Step-to-release folding collapsible handles for compact storage
- 7-position single-point height adjustment (1-1/2 in. – 4 in.)
- High intensity LED headlights
- 2-in-1 mulching and bagging capable (side discharge accessory sold separately)
- On-board battery storage compartment for quick battery exchange
The SMART TREK technology is pretty slick. It is nice to have a mower that can keep pace with you. You want to cut faster it goes faster, you need to slow down the mower slows down. That is pretty impressive. Another impressive point is the brushless motor, which has gas like power to get you through some thick grass. I was really impressed with the 7 position height adjustment, which will let you cut really low or really high when need to. Like all modern electric and battery powered mowers, the mower starts with a push of a button.
The one negative thing about the Ryobi 21 SMART TREK mower is the price. This model is pretty expensive, especially if you opt for the dual 6ah batteries. However, this is the Cadillac of battery powered lawn mowers, and to get those awesome features you have a pretty steep price point. If you find this to be too expensive for your taste, check out my post on the Best Cordless Electric Lawn Mower Under $300
Best Battery Powered Riding Mower
This a relatively new category in electric lawn care equipment. There is only a hand full of manufacturers that have products on the market. I would consider Ryobi the current leader in this particular category. Ryobi has both traditional battery powered riding mowers and battery powered zero turn riding mowers. Yes, you read that right, a battery powered zero turn riding mower.
The Ryobi 42 in. 100 Ah Battery Electric Zero Turn Riding Mower is the best of the best when it comes to a battery powered zero turn riding mower. I guess the big thing is that this mower really is in a class by itself. It really has no competition in the home consumer segment. There are commercial battery powered zero turn riding mowers, but they cost thousands of dollars more than the Ryobi. I do have to admit, I am little bias here. I own this model and it really is a pretty great riding mower.
- Up to 3 acres per charge
- 4 high powered brushless motors
- two speed and cutting modes
- 42 in. heavy-duty steel deck
- 2 precision cut steel blades
- 12 position manual deck adjustment
- Side discharge, mulching or bagging capable
- 1.5 in. to 4.5 in. adjustable cutting height
- Low maintenance: no belts, spark plugs, or filters
- Control panel: battery level indicator, unit hour meter, USB charging
- Includes towing hitch and tow assembly hardware
Now you might be saying to yourself, there is no way this thing can cut up to 3 acres on a single charge. Well, you would be wrong, it will. I live in the metro Atlanta, Georgia area, and I have a pretty big yard, with around 2 acres of grass I need to cut. This mower can handle it with no issues at all. I will have to say though, it will cut the complete yard when I have the mower set at slow driving speed and slow cutting speed. The slow driving speed is perfect for my yard, since I have plenty of obstacles in my way, and when on high speed this riding mower is very quick thanks to the instant battery powered brushless motors. The cut from this mower is extremely nice and puts my old Husquvarna to shame. I cut my mowing time by a third easily with this riding mower.
The only negative thing I would have to say about this battery powered zero turn riding mower, would be the cost. This mower is not cheap, but it comparatively priced to gas powered zero turn mowers. That being said, I would not hesitate to buy this battery powered zero turn riding mower, it was worth every penny in the time savings and quality of cut.
Best Electric or Battery Powered Leaf Blower
This is another segment of electric lawn equipment that has really exploded over the last couple of years. Electric and battery powered leaf blowers are made by pretty much all electric power tool manufactures, and battery technology has really helped these blowers get a foot hold into the power tool market. I love battery powered leaf blowers, for one reason, noise. If you know anything about gas leaf blowers, you know they are loud. Electric and battery powered leaf blowers are so much quieter, and with the latest models are just as powerful as their gas cousins.
The EGO 56-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Blower is the best battery powered leaf blower on the market today. This blower is powerful, and with a 56 volt battery the run time is pretty impressive as well. If you are looking for a blower to move a larger amount of leaves and do it relatively quietly this is the blower for you.
- 5.0 Ah 56-Volt ARC lithium battery can power all EGO products
- Most powerful blower ever
- Variable-speed control delivers 225-580 CFM
- Up to 3 hours of run time on efficiency mode
- Weather-resistant construction
- Flat and tapered nozzle attachments included
- Ergonomic design for superb balance and user comfort
So in the leaf blower market the name of the game is CFM or cubic feet per minute. What it basically comes down to is the higher the CFM, the easier it is to move those leaves around your yard. The Ego has an impressive 580 CFM, that is a lot. This blower also has a very impressive run time of 3hours. I don’t think I got 3 hours of run time out of any gas blower I have ever used. Another plus is the 56-volt batteries can be used in other EGO equipment as well if you happen to have other electric lawn equipment from EGO’s 56-volt line.
If there is one negative I can think of for the EGO blower is that it is a little heavy. That 56 volt while impressive on the power side of things, is heavy. Like most leaf blowers, you would benefit from a shoulder strap, and luckily this model has an optional strap if you are interested in taking a little of the load off.
Best Electric Pressure Washer
Electric pressure washers have come a long way as well in the last couple of years. The main reason being the adoption of brushless motors, which have allowed for higher PSI output. I personally have an non brushless Ryobi pressure washer and it is sufficient for washing your car and cleaning off your patio furniture, but if you want to really blast away the grime, you need brushless power.
As far as electric pressure washers the Greenworks GPW2200 Electric Pressure Washer is the cream of the crop. This is an excellent pressure washer that boasts brushless power along with powerful 2200 psi output. The pressure washer has a nice 25 feet of high pressure hose and a generous 35 feet of power cord. It also has quick disconnecting nozzles which are a must these days with modern electric pressure washers.
- Powerful 14A Brushless motor generates 2200 psi and 2. 3 gallons per minute for maximum cleaning power. PWMA certified
- Metal quick connect wand comes with 15°, 25°, 40°, soap, and turbo nozzle. Tangle-Free Hose Included
- Onboard detergent tank conveniently stores soap for easy application
- Rugged metal frame design with 8-in wheels for easy portability
- Perfect for medium-duty applications like cleaning cars, decks, windows, and other areas around your house
- Up to 50% more increased water flow with Xstream Flow technology
- Digital Pressure Sensing, on board LED display senses nozzle change and increases motor RPMs for maximum water flow
With electric pressure washers, PSI is the king of stats. With 2200 psi this Greenworks electric pressure washer is very powerful and should be able to handle all of the pressure washing chores at your home. This model also has a powerful 2.3 gallons per minute output which will help with cleaning tasks. The metal wand is a nice addition and puts this model ahead of others who have plastic wands.
The only negative I have found with this GreenWorks electric pressure washer is the same flaw with all electric pressure washers. Electric pressure washers have one inherent flaw, and that is they are tied to your nearest electrical outlet. Now, this can partially be overcome by an outdoor rated and high gauge extension cord, but do follow the manufactures recommendations on using extension cords with your pressure washer.
Best Electric or Battery Powered String Trimmer
Just like the other categories in this post electric and battery powered string trimmers have also come a long way in the last couple of years. The introduction of larger and more powerful lithum ion batteries and brushless motors have really pushed these trimmers up a notch. My favorite thing about electric and battery powered string trimmers is the weight reduction from a similarly powered gas model. I had a 4 cycle string trimmer and it was heavy, really heavy, especially after using it for a little while. A shoulder strap was a necessity with the gas string trimmer. The reduction in weight with no loss of power make electric and battery powered string trimmers a no brainer.
The Ryobi 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Electric Cordless Attachment Capable String Trimmer is our string trimmer of choice. This a great string trimmer, with both a 13 inch and 15 inch adjustable cutting width with a brushless motor, and a powerful 40v battery. What puts this trimmer ahead of all the competition is that it is also is attachment cable, which takes this trimmer up a notch in our book. I personally own the older brushed version of this model, and have acquired several attachments such as the leaf blower, pole saw, and brush cutter. The ability to add attachments is such a huge benefit.
- Brushless motor for maximum power and durability
- Attachment capable: works with RYOBI expand-it attachments
- Reel easy plus 3-in-1 bump feed head
- Bump feed head for easy reloads
- Premium dual 0.095 in. line
- Adjustable 13 in. to 15 in. cutting width
- Variable speed with 2-speed trigger for more control
- Adjustable front handle for user comfort
The trimmer is exceptional by itself. It handles trimming and edging with ease. What really makes it the battery powered string trimmer of choice is the ability to add attachments. Also, the ability to use the 40v battery with any other Ryobi tool is another plus. With the brushless power of this trimmer, combined with attachment capability you have more than enough power to handle many tasks from trimming grass, prunning trees, and cutting thicker brush.
The Best of the Best
So there you have it. The best of the best electric lawn equipment. You can’t go wrong with any of the tools we listed above. I personally own several of these tools, because I was so impressed with them. Just to summarize, here is the list if you want the ultimate electric lawn equipment shopping list:
Now get out there and cut the grass, blow leaves, wash the deck, and trim up grass around your sidewalk.
